Scalable or not Scalable? That has been the question of many developers who have embarked on this journey with the Dolphin Social Networking Suite. The huge problem we are having, is that nobody has taken it to the level to find out its stress or fracture point.

One thing that was discovered early on by our team was the limitation of a 32bit OS (*nix), whereas you have a directory limitation of 32k. There are a few work-arounds on this changing the file system to xfs is one of those options. The other option is to go to the expense of a complete rebuild of the OS to 64bit where this directory limitation is no longer realized.

Yes this is a discussion about RMS, but the mention of the 32k directory limitation is applicable to RMS as well. What this basically would amount to is that you would on any one site only have the capability of carrying ~31,898 as your member base, given that there would be file system directories that are created. The RMS application creates a directory for every user who utilizes the streaming capabilities of video profile, and now i believe that video comments are being streamed across the RMS environment. I have to do some more research on that and will be back to post the discovery.

We believe that RMS is scalable, would need to be rewritten, but actually it has been rewritten, and Red5 is the primary backbone of the RMS suite now. So we have to ask is RED5 scalable? That my fine feathered friends will be a topic in and of itself.

Scalable or not Scalable on the RMS? Developers and Testers, please post your feedback on here and lets see what we come up with.

Regards,

DosDawg
